Meet Dr. Auker
Dr. Auker is a Board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in laser refractive surgery and oculoplastics procedures.
Recognized for his surgical skills, clinical judgment and commitment to excellence, he has always been a doctor’s doctor. Having performed these procedures on many physician colleagues and thousands of other satisfied patients, Dr. Auker is highly qualified to offer the best care and service available anywhere.
As a surgical specialist, Dr. Auker only offers those procedures he performs with the absolute confidence of outstanding outcomes. As a community-based physician and an esteemed member of the medical community, his commitment is to the best interest of each patient he treats.
Training
Dr. Auker is a native to the Bay Area and was fortunate to complete most of his training locally. Following completion of undergraduate studies as an independent major in Bioethics through the Scholar’s Program at the University of California at Santa Barbara, he studied at the Graduate School of Public Health at Berkeley. He completed Medical School at the University of California at San Francisco. His internship training was taken at Stanford University Training Hospitals and the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Surgical training in Ophthalmology was completed at Bethesda Eye Institute and Saint Louis University.
Dr. Auker practiced in the Permanente Medical Group for nearly a decade while enjoying tremendous surgical volume, increasing reputation and refinement of his surgical skills as one of the busiest ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeons in the Bay Area. Realizing a goal to establish a private practice based on the principle of providing absolutely the best quality care and service for every patient seen, Dr. Auker established the Auker Eye Institute.
Professional Pursuits
Dr. Auker is past president of both the East Bay Ophthalmology Society and Kaiser Permanente Northern California Ophthalmology Society. He has served as a representative-at-large for the Board of Directors of the California Association of Ophthalmology.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Dr. Auker was Chief of the Laser Safety Committee as well as a member of the Ethics Committee for the Diablo Service Area for the duration of his career with Kaiser Permanente.
As a team physician for the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Water Polo Team, Dr. Auker was able to marvel at this level of excellence and commitment first-hand and to re-dedicate himself to strive to achieve this level of achievement in his care of his patients.
The Auker Eye Institute is committed to enhancing the quality and scholarly practice of eye care through the greater East Bay and hosts quarterly “Grand Rounds” study groups to present cases requiring highly specialized medical or surgical intervention.
Personal Pursuits
Happily married and a father of three thriving children, Dr. Auker loves parenting and participating in all aspects of family life. An avid sportsman, he enjoys fitness training while running, biking and swimming and doing an occasional triathlon. Mountaineering and backcountry skiing provide the occasional respite from an active professional life.
Dr. Auker completed the “Death Ride” Tour of the California Alps in 2000. He also was a member of the National Champion 6.0 Mixed Doubles Tennis Team in 1997.
